Allerthorpe Super Sprint Tri – Cancelled

Freebird Events deeply regret to announce that in line with public health guidance regarding the Covid-19 pandemic we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to cancel all of our events this year.

The global situation is very fluid, and we like the rest of the world don’t know how long it will all last. We are closely following the news and Government rulings on mass gatherings. Due to the severe limits placed on mass gatherings we unfortunately have no option but to cancel all events this year.

At such a time as this as we all face a global situation of unprecedented scale, we ask for your patience and understanding.

Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy.

The Allerthorpe Super Sprint Triathlon began back in 2014 when we were asked if Freebird Events would consider staging a shorter open-water triathlon. The idea that this would then be a natural progression for competitors that had only ever participated in pool-based triathlons.

With the swim reduced to just 400-metres, it gives competitors the confidence to sign up for an open-water triathlon. It is also the perfect event for people that prefer the shorter distance of the super sprint format.

This triathlon immediately gained a firm footing with both new triathletes and youths moving up from the Junior Triathlon format. The event has grown from year to year and is definitely the perfect event to introduce you to open-water triathlons.

The event kicks off right before the Classic Distance Allerthorpe Triathlon and is conducted to the same high quality level as you would expect from any Freebird event.

Take part in this great event, the Allerthorpe Super Sprint Triathlon takes place on Sunday 2nd August 2020

We advise competitors to arrive a minimum one hour before the start of their race to ensure they have plenty of time to rack their bikes before the first wave of competitors and also gives everyone time to find their way around the course and feel comfortable with the transition areas.

Final race information including competitor’s final start times will be emailed out to you approximately 10 days before the Allerthorpe Super Sprint Triathlon and will also be listed on the website the week before the event on here so please make sure you check your time and allow plenty of time for travel to the venue.

We will be in touch before this, keeping you up to date with any race information, training tips and ideas that might just help you achieve a PB!

There is parking available at the venue. There are also changing facilities, a great choice of food plus equipment stalls at the event (just in case you forget something!)

Could this be your debut of an open water triathlon? Set in superb surroundings, Allerthorpe Lakeland Park offers the perfect location for your introduction to this exciting sport.

A 400-metre, single lap swim, is very easy to navigate and with the whole lake in view, your supporters can share your experience as you take on the first discipline of the triathlon.

Experience the freedom and enjoyment of open-water swimming with the full support of a very experienced water safety crew.

Having completed the swim, you’ll soon be flying through the transition area, located very close to the swim exit. From here you will head out onto the 11-kilometre bike circuit around Allerthorpe (located only 10 miles from York, North Yorkshire). You can be assured that the bike course is very easy to navigate with signs located at every junction along with highly experienced marshals to direct you throughout the ride. The Yorkshire roads are particularly flat and set in beautiful countryside making this part of the course particularly picturesque. The quiet and very good surfaced roads make this bike circuit a pleasure to ride.

Unfortunately this is not a closed road event but we take the upmost care to ensure drivers are aware of the event and the roads are usually quite quiet allowing for an undisturbed ride.

Make a swift change from bike to run in the transition area, then head back out of the park to complete the out and back 2.5-kilometre run.

Heading out of Allerthorpe Lakeland Park you will experience the friendly atmosphere as you start your run. As expected, signage and marshals are located at every road junction along with the enthusiasm and support of our Freebird support crew. As you head back into the park you’ll have just a final 200-metres to go before being cheered over the finishing line by the crowds of supporters.

A fantastic opportunity to experience an open-water triathlon in the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside!

You will wear a timing chip throughout the event which will track your time throughout each discipline, at the end of the course you can view your time and get a print out from our machine. Final timings and photos will be uploaded to our website within 7 days of completion of the event. (Please bear with us on this as due to high numbers of competitors this can sometimes take several days to process!)

In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding the Allerthorpe Super Sprint Triathlon, please check our FAQ page and if your query is not answered there please contact us we will do our best to answer any question you may have.

Best of luck with your training and preparation for your chosen triathlon. We look forward to welcoming you to the Allerthorpe Super Sprint Triathlon on 2nd August 2020
